The offseason has been slow for quite some time since baseball ended following the 2025 Major League Baseball World Series. The Seattle Mariners struck first and have locked up their first baseman, Josh Naylor, to a five-year contract.
Naylor, who became a free agent following the 2025 season, was traded to the Seattle Mariners from the Arizona Diamondbacks at the trade deadline in July to help boost the Mariners’ offense as they made their push to the playoffs. Before getting traded over to Seattle, Naylor was batting .292 in 310 plate appearances. In the 310 plate appearances, he hit 11 home runs, 19 doubles, 59 RBI, and 49 runs scored. The 29-year-old’s success continued when he joined his new team. As a member of the Mariners, he hit just shy of a .300 batting average in 210 plate appearances, which included nine home runs, 10 doubles, 32 runs scored, and 33 RBI.
The postseason fits the 29-year-old Naylor perfectly. In 51 plate appearances in the 2025 postseason, he owned a slash line of .340/.392/.574. The Mariners made it all the way to the American League Championship Series before losing to the Toronto Blue Jays in seven games.
Naylor will rejoin Seattle’s superstars Cal Raleigh and Julio Rodriguez for the 2026 season, and Naylor will be in a Mariners uniform until at least his age-33 season. This should be the first of a few Mariners free agents that Seattle will look to bring back.
