New York Yankees outfielder Trent Grisham officially accepted his qualifying offer to return to the Bronx for at least one more year. Accepting the one-year qualifying offer now means that Grisham will be making $22.025 million for this upcoming 2026 season.
Does the one-year offer that Grisham just accepted affect where newly free agent Cody Bellinger ends up? According to multiple reports, the Yankees’ General Manager says that it will not have any impact. Grisham, who originally started as the Yankees’ fourth outfielder, took advantage of his play opportunities, particularly when injuries occurred to Yankees captain Aaron Judge, and then suddenly became an everyday outfielder.
Grisham played 143 games out of the 162-game season. In 143 games this past season, he batted .235 with 34 home runs, nine doubles, one triple, 74 RBI, 87 runs scored, and a career-high .811(OPS) on-base plus slugging percentage. Due to the impressive numbers that Grisham finished the year with, the Yankees gladly welcomed him back with open arms.
The New York Yankees now have some decisions to be made. If Cody Bellinger returns to the Yankees on a new deal, will Jasson Dominguez become the fourth outfielder? The pinstripes also have highly regarded prospect Spencer Jones as a potential piece to make the opening day roster. Still early in the offseason, decisions will be made before Spring Training begins in February.
