The Chicago Cubs have agreed to sign veteran reliever Phil Maton to a two-year deal. Maton, 32, pitched for both the St. Louis Cardinals and Texas Rangers during the 2025 season. Maton has pitched for seven different big league organizations and will enter his 10th big league season in 2026.
Over his last nine years pitched in the big leagues, he has pitched for the Houston Astros, San Diego Padres, Cleveland Guardians, St. Louis Cardinals, Tampa Bay Rays, New York Mets, and Texas Rangers to a career 3.98 ERA, including 10 saves, 183 walks, while striking out 539 batters across 472.1 innings.
As the Chicago Cubs look to rebuild their bullpen for the 2026 season, locking up Maton for at least the next two years will be beneficial as they seek to continue their postseason success.
