Free agent Dylan Cease and the Toronto Blue Jays have agreed to a seven-year $210 million contract. Cease now joins his third big league team after joining the 2025 American League Champions, the Toronto Blue Jays.

Cease has been a member of the Chicago White Sox for five seasons, during which he really made a name for himself before he was traded to the San Diego Padres, where he played two seasons. Cease has been one of the more reliable pitchers in Major League Baseball over the last several seasons. Over his previous five seasons, Cease has struck out at least 200 batters in each of his last five seasons while also pitching at least 165 innings in each of his previous five seasons.

Dylan Cease has also done something that not too many pitchers have done in Major League Baseball. On July 25, 2024, Cease tossed a no-hitter as a member of the San Diego Padres against the Washington Nationals when the Padres defeated the Nationals 3-0.

Cease now becomes the biggest free agent signing in Blue Jays history, surpassing George Springer’s six-year, $150 million deal. Cease was looked at as one of the top free agent targets in the off-season, and now he is off the market. The Blue Jays still have a bad taste in their mouth after losing the World Series in seven games to the Los Angeles Dodgers. The Blue Jays’ pitching rotation will feature Kevin Gausman, Trey Yesavage, Shane Bieber, and Jose Berríos.
